Recreation & Transportation Committee

General Information:

Who We Are

The Recreation and Transportation Committee of the MCA is made up of volunteers interested in promoting the joy of safe cycling as a healthy and environmentally-responsible form of leisure-time fun and transportation. Manitoba could be a friendlier place for cyclists, and this committee is made up of cyclists who know that change will not come about without grass roots involvement and lobbying. All cyclists who use their bicycles for commuting and recreation benefit from the activities of this committee. A strong membership is needed to bring about the positive changes which will create a safer, more pleasant environment for cyclists.  The Vice President for The Recreation and Transportation Committee is Phil Roadley

Postcard Campaign:

The R&T committee once again launched a postcard campaign. We are looking for your signature to raise the level of awareness of the needs of cyclists in Winnipeg. These postcards will be collected, sorted by ward, and sent in to the appropriate councilor.

The cards are relevant for everyone, not just cyclists...if people are not cyclists themselves we are asking if they have children, nieces, nephews, or grandchildren who are. We are specifically asking council to commit more funds for cycling lanes, signed routes and multi - use paths. If you are interested in helping out please contact Rob Cosco of the Recreation and Transportation Committee. If you work in a large office and can canvass co workers that would be great...every signature we get will be worth the effort.

The MCA R&T committee is working hard on defining their goals and how to achieve them with the help of Ian Hall, who is acting as a facilitator. Through a series of workshops, the committee will define clear, prioritized objectives for the next two years, along with specific goals and measures to help achieve those goals.
